DWI penalty
Did you know what the judge could give you if you are convicted of a DWI? Are you aware that this could come with jail time and you might be sentenced pretty harshly? There are different DWI penalties depending on the area and how many DWIs you have just had. Here are some of the DWI penalties you can face.
As a first time offender there used to be a program that you might use that would wipe it clean from your record, but that does not exist anymore. However, if you negotiate correctly you can generally get this type of deal with a year of probation and some community service. However, you could face much more.
When you get a DWI the penalties can be as grim as 1 year in prison, a 2 year drivers license suspension, 150 hours community service, and court costs and fees. This is also going to include some probation and it’ll finish up on your record. I have observed judges give out the maximums to first time offenders before so don’t think it cannot happen to you.
Another thing you want to understand about DWI penalties is they do not stop at what the judge gives you. All the court costs add up and if you hire a counsel you’ll have to pay for that service as well . And for the next 5 years your insurance rates on your car are going to almost double. This can be very expensive and that is a huge penalty on its own.
