DWI education program
The point of the Texas DUI Education Instructor / Administer workshop is to prepare DUI teachers to effectively administer and instruct the DUI Offender Education training Program. This 5-day course addresses the applying of basic adult learning ideas and instructional talents important to deliver the DUI Education training. The training will revolve around demonstration of teaching techniques through a sequence of instructional activities by the scholars. Upon successful completion, all attendees will have mastered all aspects of the Texas DUI Offender Education Program curriculum.
Program Background :
Texas DUI Education Program : Article 42.12, Section l3 ( h ),Code of Criminal Procedure needs folks convicted of first offense DUI and receiving probation to attend and successfully finish an academic program guaranteed by the Texas dep. of State Health Services ( DSHS ).
Failure to finish the program inside l80 days ( unless an extension was granted ) from the date probation was granted will end up in the offender’s license being revoked. The license can’t be reinstated until the academic program is finished. The standardized program is twelve hours in length and is designed to help DUI offenders increase their information about alcohol and drugs as these substances relate to driving skills, to identify their own individual drinking / drug taking and driving patterns, and to help them in developing plans which will cut back the probability of future DUI behaviour.
Specific course topics include alcohol / drug and traffic safety Problems, Texas laws relating to DUI, effects of alcohol / drugs on humans, results of alcohol and drugs on driving abilities, chemical dependency, symptoms of dependency, sources of help, costs of DUI, and decision making.
People taking the instructor / administrator course are
1. People who plan to start a licensed program ; or
2. Staff selected for training by the administrator or owner of an approved program ; or
3. People who are looking for training before looking for employment.
To be eligible to take the teacher / administrator course, you must have :
- Prior experience in an educational setting ( though you don’t need to be a pro instructor or teacher )
- Traffic safety background ( if feasible )
- Awareness of alcohol and drug abuse and experience working with substance abusers.
- Demonstrated ability in adult education
- Ability to use a number of teaching strategies ( visible assists like PowerPoint, group dialogue, instructor-led etc . )
- Ability to administer and interpret all data collection instruments.
